Last but not least of the canine meet and greet is Rugby. He is an Aussie, Cattle Dog, Border Collie mix with athleticism, talent, and attitude to spare. He is exactly what I didn’t know I wanted. A friend of mine breeds Australian Shepherds and has a red merle named Praline, that I absolutely love. I wanted a dog I could play sports with and really wanted a Praline puppy. Well, a determined Praline escaped her confines and had an unapproved rendezvous with a crazy Cattle Collie named Kip. Kip also has athletic talent for days but has a tendency to act first, think later.

Initially, I stuck to my guns and said I didn’t want a puppy. It was relatively short lived and I ended up deciding if there was a red male in the litter, I would take him. Given red is recessive and Kip is a black and white dog, I figured chances of any red puppies were slim to none. So in July 2016, when the second puppy born was a red male so dark he looked black, I claimed him right then, figuring it was meant to be. The litter only had 4 puppies and Rugby was the only male.
He was a fresh little shit as a puppy and is still pretty fresh almost 4 years later. Thankfully Rugs got more of his mothers brains but is still quite athletically inclined. He is brilliant and picks new skills up insanely fast. He’s easy to train and loves learning new things. We just click. He loves to cuddle and has turned into an awesome home office dog. He’s not the biggest fan of people or dogs he doesn’t know and doesn’t care much for Rumor most days, but we manage. He loves playing disc, going swimming, and learning new things.
