Earlier this year I was looking for a way to get more nutrients into the boys diets. A little extra something to help balance the homemade raw diet they eat. Too much of some of these things and they’d get runny poops (gross), none and they’re lacking some important parts of their diet. Plus some of this stuff is crazy expensive. I try to buy in bulk and freeze but then thawing and serving can be troublesome with only 3 dogs. Enter my favorite silicone molds. Seriously, I love these things. I started with two paw prints and two bones….and have added another 3 trays of the paw prints for more mass production and just because I love them that much! The bones are nice too but a little small for my dogs, while the paw prints are just about the perfect size, holding about .5 oz once of whatever frozen goodies I decide. They make for great meal toppers! I’ll be sharing how I make these awesome and EASY frozen paws with various recipes. There’s also a Facebook group specifically for the frozen paw treats, recipes, short cuts, etc. which is awesome!

First up is salmon paws!
I won’t lie, I’m lazy when it comes to this stuff, so while you could probably grind/puree your own salmon, I don’t. Instead I buy a ground salmon from Oma’s Pride that comes in 5 lb bricks. It also comes in 1 lb bricks if you’re looking to dabble before your jump all in. This makes my prep super easy! I literally just thaw, squeeze and freeze.

I used to open the whole package and scoop it out bit by bit to fill the molds but I’ve gotten wiser! I just trim one corner and squeeze into each print. Then use a small spoon to squish it down. They don’t all turn out perfect BUT it’s much quicker and much less messy! Once each of the molds are filled, they go onto a cookie sheet to keep them level and into the freezer they go.

I freeze for a few hours anywhere between 2-8 (depending on if I’ve forgotten about them). Then I simply pop them out and dump them into a plastic freezer bag until I’m ready to use them.

On nights when I want to add some salmon to the boys meals I just pull out 3 and add one to each bowl! Couldn’t be easier! Check back for more recipes and how to’s. These paw print silicone molds get a lot of use so there will be more options coming if salmon isn’t your thing.
Also, for anyone following along, Rugby did great last Sunday and we even walked away with a 3rd place in Women’s Far Out because the red dog is awesome. This was the aftermath.
