Since Rugby got hurt last year I have been looking into buying a cold laser and could just never quite get myself to do it. Well, I finally did it. A substantial credit from teaching at the training center, a recently sold kayak, and a discounted price were enough to get me to pull the trigger on buying my cold laser. Cold laser therapy is great for reducing pain, inflammation and scar tissue, accelerating tissue repair and wound healing, improving nerve function, stimulating the immune response and acupuncture points, and so much more! So here we are. It’s fancy and I love it!

Before the laser arrived, I took a 3 part course on the scientific basis of medical lasers, medical laser safety, and laser therapy principles in companion animals (dogs). The course wasn’t too terrible in terms of length and only 2/3 sections made me want to poke out my eyeballs and/or fall asleep. Overall, it did offer some helpful resources that I feel helped solidify my understanding of cold laser use. Rumor did not enjoy the course. He wanted to do things, any things, as long as it was things.

On Tuesday, the beautiful, fancy laser arrived and I love it! It was kind of like Christmas in July (almost). On Wednesday, after reading the instruction manual cover to cover (honestly), which I have never done in my 29 years and may never do again, Rugby got his first at home cold laser treatment! He’s been getting cold laser on and off for the past 18 months but at $75+ a session it is far too rich for my blood, and there was no way I could afford to have cold laser for all 3. Between the three boys, this thing will pay for itself in no time and I will have tremendously happy boys. Dogs, like humans, sometimes are sore after workouts so my hope is that regular laser use will help keep them in tip top shape for disc and prevent further injuries when used in conjunction with our current routine of fitness, cross training, and good nutrition. With Ryder’s structure, Rumor’s size, and Rugby’s past injury I definitely want to do what I can to help keep them sound and healthy.
