Frozen Paws: Blueberries and Goats Milk Edition

Back with another frozen paw prints recipe and adventure! I wasn’t kidding when I said I love these molds. They are great! This time I made blueberries and raw goats milk frozen paw prints! Ryder and Rumor both love blueberries. Rugby thinks they are weird but will happily gobble down a frozen paw print. Blueberries are a great source of antioxidants, fiber and Vitamins C and K and the raw goats milk is full of good bacteria and probiotics for a health GI system! Plus another great treat for hot days, though I usually just put these in their food bowls at night. I learned some valuable lessons as I made these and they got easier/better as I went.

I chose to use frozen blueberries because I am all about ease! I could just have easily gotten fresh blueberries but I think the frozen ones worked out just as well. I also used Oma’s Pride Raw Goats Milk that came to me frozen and wasn’t what I was expecting consistency wise once thawed but apparently normal. Honestly my motives were again ease of access. That said, when I make these again I will likely be looking for another source because the two 16 fl oz bottles I got were pricey and while I love my dogs, they already eat WAY better than I do. Each bottle made about 50 paw prints combined with the blueberries which is nice.

Everything prepped and ready to go!

My first thought was pour the goats milk into each of the paw print wells and then top off with blueberries. My first thought was not my best thought for a couple reasons. 1. I’m apparently a terrible pourer and only a fraction of the goats milk ended up where I meant it to. It made a bit of a mess. I lost some of it to the counter top and cookie sheet that the paw print trays were on and I really didn’t want to waste any of it! 2. When you pour the goats milk in first, if you aren’t careful and fill to the top (guilty), there’s no room for blueberries! I ended up using a teaspoon to scoop some milk out and adding it to other wells before adding the blueberries. Rumor, who was overseeing the process was hopeful some of the mess would be excessive and make it to the floor but he was sadly disappointed.

It took about half a tray done this way before I wisened up and changed my approach. Blueberries went in first! This way I could 4-5 blueberries to each well and move on. So much faster and easier! Then I used the spoon to top off each well with goats milk. MUCH less messy and less spillage. Once they were all filled, I gave each paw print a quick stir, which was essentially a dip of the spoon to spread the blueberries and color. This step is wholly unneccesary but makes them look pretty and fancy in my opinion.

At the end of it all, I think they turned out pretty great and the dogs like them so win win!
