I’m Thankful for My Dogs

This week I did almost nothing with my dogs and they’re okay, and for that I am thankful. None of them are eating the walls, destroying things, or causing trouble. They are little extra amped when it’s time to go out but that’s about it. One of the things I try to teach early on is how to settle in the house. Ryder has this down, he basically came preprogrammed with it. Rugby settles pretty well if he’s with me or in a crate. Unsupervised especially with Ryder he can be a little obnoxious but it’s typically short lived. Rumor is the worst about settling, always has been. He whines and in new places he paces. Typically crate time settles him down which is nice. Even he was a champ this week.

This week I was so thankful for dogs that are content just being house pets and couch cuddle buddies. I managed to knock my SI joint out of whack pretty solidly and woke up on Monday with a lot of difficulty moving. I managed to get the dogs out and fed Monday but that was the extent of it.

Tuesday I was feeling a little better but not by much. I took Rugby to agility and on our turns just walked the course while he and I worked on some independent weave pole entrances. He was stressed by my pain and it ultimately proved too much for him. He made some poor choices near the end of class. No one was hurt but I now know if I’m not 100% or close to it, he needs to stay home.

Wednesday – Saturday were much of the same for the boys. Out for bathroom breaks and dinner. Rugby hung out with me in bed or the kitchen while the older two hung out in the living room. All three boys are ready to go do something but all in all are doing an amazing job of just chilling out.

I love that my boys are ready to go whenever I am and will try whatever I ask them too but I also love just as much, or more, when their job is to just stay home, chill out, and cuddle they do that exceptionally well too.

As a side note, I highly recommend teaching your dog(s) how to pick things up. I never realized how often I drop things until it’s nearly impossible to pick them up. Ryder and Rugby have been my pick up crew this week and it has been super helpful.
