It’s been a minute since my last post. Honestly this post will probably be a little more about me than the dogs SO if you’re here for the dogs consider this your warning. The boys and I have been insanely busy. Well mostly me. At first I felt unbelievably guilty about not posting each week and it was stressing me out, but ultimately I decided to be kind to myself and prioritize. My mental health has to come first and then my dogs. It seems silly but being conscious about that decision is insanely important to actually following through with it for me.
SO here’s a quick update on the past month. Work has been insanely busy but spring break is here so finally I’ve got a hot minute to chill and catch up on everything, including the blog!
I’m still teaching agility classes and started a new set of tricks classes. I love teaching but its draining and exhausting, more so lately and I’m not entirely sure why.
The work on my toss and fetch game continues, it feels like a mountain that just keeps getting higher no matter how hard I work at it. I know it will pay off eventually but in the mean time it’s frustrating not seeing progress.
Rugby had a bit of a scare when he had a few off/lame steps at league in May. So we took some major steps back, rest, leash walks, back to foundational fitness, cold laser, massage and progressed slowly. Aside from the initial lameness that last literally 2 steps, he hasn’t had anymore and has been doing amazing. We played a few rounds of UpDog and Toss and Fetch league last week and he’s looked and felt amazing. So I’m cautiously breathing a sigh of relief at that bullet dodged but keeping up with our current routine.
The disc dog club I’m part of ran an UpDog weekend, lots of fun but lots of work. We didn’t do particularly well on paper but we managed to meet some of our goals even though my toss and fetch game was ROUGH to say the least. We also had a ton of fun playing pairs games, and got the official first camping trip of the year under our belts.
The club is also running a disc dog camp in July so there have been multiple moving parts that are small in the scheme of things but add up. It’s a great opportunity to help grow and share the sport I love but one more thing on my plate.
Biothane orders have continued in a slow, steady stream which is good, though it’s been a little overwhelming at times. Sometimes I feel like it wasn’t the best choice to start this new endeavor right now or back in December rather but I keep reminding myself it’s a good thing and an amazing opportunity.
I’m slowly making my way through my CCRP classes. My labs are in just a few short weeks and I still have to finish the prerequisites classes before I get down there and do the case study prep. Another good thing but definitely feeling like I took on way too much and it’s not the best time. I keep reminding myself if not now, when?
My sister is getting married and we just wrapped up her bridal shower, which was a lot of fun! The other bridesmaids did amazing putting it all together. I was not the most present through the last 2 week stretch of planning which I feel terribly guilty about but I just couldn’t figure out how to fit it in.
I also started an online photography class focused on getting better photos of my dogs (and maybe others some day). If I can keep up with it, hopefully there will be more/better photos of the boys to share
Last week we also had an awesome opportunity at one of the schools I work at but that will gets own post I think because it was so very exciting! Bonus post kind of makes up for the last of posts for the past month right?
The boys have kept me present, kept me pushing, even on the days I’ve so tired I can barely function. I’m thankful to them for that. Looking at all the things on paper (screen) it makes a little more sense why I’m so exhausted. Might be time to take a step back and reduce the load a bit.
