Meet Ratchet

Ratchet is a red tri Australian Shepherd from the same breeder Rugby came from. I wasn’t planning on adding a puppy until 2023 at the earliest but things don’t always go according to plan. I’ve been obsessed with Ratchet’s mother, Cinch, since I met her in the pitch black at an airport. She’s a phenomenal dog that loves to work and is a joy to train, super sweet, and just an all around a nice dog plus she’s a gorgeous dog physically. When I found out she had a litter on the ground I was so sad that the timing wasn’t right but was super excited to see nice dark reds from her! Well, the timing not being right quickly turned into, if there was a puppy with a super solid temperament, that had the potential for sports (disc mainly, but also agility and dock), was well built, and would fit in with my other 3 then I might consider it.

I’ve always been a sucker for red bi’s since my first Aussie, Rusty, so naturally I was pulled towards one of the red bi’s right away but the little black tri also had my attention. As they grew, the black tri quickly took over as my favorite but their breeder didn’t think he had enough confidence for what I wanted. Ultimately, he wasn’t the right fit, and I told her to pick the puppy that would be the best fit for me. Enter Ratchet. A red tri with minimal white and a TON of copper. I’m not usually a fan of tris because washed out copper just doesn’t do anything for me. Let me tell you, this puppy, despite my reservations initially, has turned out to be everything I wanted in a puppy. He’s intense but not super serious, has springs for legs, is super sweet, and handles most everything in stride without too much issue or at the very least quick recoveries. He gets along with the other 3 well enough, or at the very least is respectful of their communication.

In just a few short months, Ratchet has traveled to NY, CT, OH, and MO. He’s experienced multiple competitions, hanging out and experiencing the environment. He’s had his first hotel stay and his first AirBNB stay without issue. He hangs out in class while I teach, and loves going everywhere as fast as he can. The boy is almost always in motion. He’s got a ton of personality but also has a brain which is very nice!
